How the calculation works
- Leads = visitors x opt-in rate. Buyers = leads x the share of leads who buy.
- Revenue = buyers x (price + bump take rate x bump price + upsell take rate x upsell price), minus the refund rate.
- Card fees use Stripe's standard 2.9% + 30¢ per successful card charge: one charge for the main order and bump, a second for the upsell.
- Tool cost is the monthly list price of the plan you choose. Annual billing is cheaper on most tools.
- Break-even cost per lead = revenue per lead after card fees and the tool. Paying more than that for a lead loses money in the first month.
What it leaves out
Taxes, failed payments, chargebacks, repeat purchases later on, transaction fees some platforms charge (Kartra's Essentials plan lists 5%), and the value of your time. For the meaning of each number, read funnel metrics explained; to raise average order value, see the tripwire funnel.
